Meetings between the General Secretariat of the Banking Commission and the heads of banking and microfinance institutions for 2024

On 5 and 6 December 2024 respectively, the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) organised its annual meetings with the General Managers of credit institutions and financial companies on the one hand, and the main managers of large decentralised financial systems (SFD) on the other, via Google Meet.

The meetings were opened by Mr Jean-Claude Kassi BROU, Governor of the BCEAO and Chairman of the Banking Commission.

The meeting with the banking community provided an opportunity to discuss the state of the sector, the main issues arising from documentary and on-site inspections and the supervisor's expectations. Discussions also focused on boosting the interbank market through repurchase agreements, the implementation of the ISO 20022 standard in STAR-UEMOA and the compliance of banks' information systems, as well as a presentation of the activities of the Deposit Guarantee and Resolution Fund (Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et de Résolution) in WAMU.

The meeting with the chief executives of the large decentralised financial systems (SFD) provided an opportunity to review the development of their activities, the main risks borne by these entities and their level of compliance with regulatory provisions. This session was preceded by a consultation with the Ministerial Monitoring Structures (MMS) of the decentralised financial systems, held on 3 December 2024.

In addition, on Tuesday 10 December 2024, the SGCB held a consultation meeting, also via Google Meet, with the statutory auditors of the banking and microfinance sectors. During the meeting, the external auditors set out their concerns regarding a better understanding of the regulatory provisions governing the activities of the institutions subject to the regulations. For its part, the supervisor presented its expectations, based in particular on its main findings from ongoing monitoring and on-site audits.
