11th annual meeting between the SGCB and the SG-COBAC
The 11th annual meeting between the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) and the General Secretariat of the Central African Banking Commission (SG-COBAC) was held from July 3 to 4, 2024 in Abidjan, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.
This meeting is part of the implementation of the Convention on cooperation in banking supervision, exchange of information and general cooperation between the two Supervisory Authorities.
The delegations of the two Institutions were led by their respective Secretaries General, Mr. Antoine TRAORE and Mr. Marcel ONDELE.
The discussions focused on the overall situation of supervised entities with an overview of sovereign risk, the supervision of banking groups established in the two (2) jurisdictions, the challenges and prospects of increasing the minimum share capital in CEMAC and in UMOA, as well as the on-site supervision approach in terms of AML/CFT and the role of the supervisor in the face of the inclusion of a country on the FATF “grey list”. The rating systems of subject institutions, automated on-site and off-site control tools, as well as the consideration of environmental, social and governance risks in supervision were also discussed. addressed.
The next meeting scheduled for 2025 will be organized by the COBAC General Secretariat.
