Second meeting between the General Secretariat of the Banking Commission and the CEOs of electronic money institutions (EMIs)
On Friday, May 16, 2025, the second edition of the bi-annual meetings between the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission and the Managing Directors of Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) was held via videoconference.
The meeting was attended by the top executives of all fourteen (14) electronic money institutions authorized as of the end of December 2024. Welcoming this strong turnout, the Deputy Secretary General highlighted the critical role of EMIs in achieving financial inclusion goals.
Furthermore, after reviewing recent major regulatory developments, she urged the profession to pay particular attention to strengthening governance, business model viability, the robustness of information and management systems, as well as Anti-Money Laundering, Countering the Financing of Terrorism, and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (AML/CFT/CPF).
The discussions focused primarily on three (3) key areas (i) recent developments in the situation of EMIs, (ii) the main findings from off-site and on-site inspections, and (iii) the status of electronic money activity reporting via the COCOTIER application.
