The General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) organized via Google Meet, on November 24 and 28, 2023, the annual meetings with the main leaders of large Decentralized Financial Systems (SFD) on the one hand, and the General Managers of credit institutions and financial companies on the other part.

The opening of these meetings, which are respectively in their 3rd and 8th editions, was chaired by Mr. Jean-Claude Kassi BROU, Governor of the BCEAO, President of the Banking Commission. On this occasion, he sent a strong message to the banking industry and microfinance players on the measures to be taken for better risk management and strengthening the solidity of those subject to it. He also stressed the need to permanently remedy the shortcomings noted in the application of regulatory provisions relating to the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) as well as those relating to external financial relations.

The meeting with the top managers of the Financial Systems Large-scale decentralized entities (SFD) made it possible to review the evolution of their activity, the main risks borne by these entities as well as their level of compliance with the regulations applicable to them. This session was preceded by a consultation with the Ministerial Monitoring Structures (SMS) of decentralized financial systems, held on November 21, 2023.

As for the meeting with the banking community, it provided an opportunity to discuss the situation in the sector, the main issues arising from documentary and on-site audits, as well as the supervisor's expectations. The discussions also focused on the application of the provisions of the Regulation on the external financial relations of the Member States of the Union as well as on the appropriation of the regulatory framework relating to the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
